I really wish they didnt do this. I feel like they should never have played live. To me it made it more special. I dont know they are amazing vocalists but they are pretty boring on stage just pacing back and forth and where the hell is the real singer Jay Randall?
I don't really think of ANb as having a "real singer," they've been doing gang vocals from pretty early on in their career, and Rich has been part of it since the Frozen Corpse era. I'm not sure what happened with Jay, I don't know if he's still considered part of the band or not. I've never seen him say anything about it, but I suspect he agrees with you about the band playing live, and that's why you don't see him here. I saw them live 4 times, and Jay was there for the first 2 of those, but he barely participated. At the first ever show at MDF he did some vocals and interacted with the crowd a bit, but it was still mostly Rich and Kat. The second show I saw was about a year later in D.C., and Jay spent the entire show just sitting on a road case at the back of the stage, not even watching. This video is the 3rd show, and it didn't look like he was there at all. Same for their second MDF appearance. So I could be wrong, but I took that to mean he was against the decision. FWIW, I'm glad the band started performing live. I get what you're saying about this performance, but to be honest I think this Decibel Festival is just an awkward venue for grindcore bands. The stage is too large, raised too high, the room is too cavernous, and there's too much separation from the crowd. It works for death metal and black metal, but just feels wrong for grindcore. I had the same feeling when Pig Destroyer, Wake, and Repulsion played this fest. Whereas both times ANb played MDF, I was in the front row and it was a completely different energy than what you see in this video. They were dodging stagedivers, letting fans sing, and Kat especially was really crushing it with the vocals. They both still paced the stage like this, but I feel like that's what everyone does? It is true that playing live destroys the mystique a bit, but for me personally, I'm glad it happened before they had a falling out with Kat.
